Babatunde Akinboboye, baritone

Babatunde began singing career in his high school choir in 2000, which led him to sing in the acclaimed choral program at Mt. San Antonio College. During that time he served as bass section leader and student director and he learned to sing a wide variety of repertoire, including classical, jazz, R&B, barbershop, pop, and do-wop. He is presently furthering his music education at California State University, Northridge.

 Babatunde has performed in Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, as well as on stages in England, Germany, Canada, Wales, Slovenia, Italy, and Austria. In 2007 he was invited to compete as a finalist in the International Eisteddfod Vocal Solo Competition in Llangollen, Wales. In 2008 he competed in the New Century Singers of Whittier Competition in California in which he place 1st. Most recently, he has performed the roles of Henry Davis in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene, Aeneas (Dido and Aeneas), Bartolo (Le Nozze di Figaro) at California State University, Northridge Opera Theatre. He is currently preparing to play the role of the Wolf/Cinderella’s Prince in Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods. Babatunde is currently under the private instruction of Dr. David Sannerud and the vocal coaching of Carol Roberts.
